Attic in a country house: construction, insulation

Attic construction

In order to build an attic, you first need to disassemble the old roofing structures and change them to newer and more durable. Sometimes for this you have to completely redo the entire roof. Then install a rafter system guide. End the outer surface of the clapboard lining, or block-house, pre-built the frame of a thin bar. Before starting work, make sure that the foundation of the building is strong enough and will withstand additional construction. Otherwise, it should be strengthened before the construction of the attic.
After that, you can proceed to the insulation of the room and interior decoration. Materials for such works should be used those that are more suitable for the climate of the area, taking into account the wind rose and the seasonal use of the room. You can sheathe the attic from the inside with sheets of drywall or clapboard. The difference between these materials is small, and you can choose the one that is easier to buy.

Attic insulation

Attic space is usually very cold, since this structure is not protected from cold and wind by a layer of brick or lumber. That is why special requirements are imposed on the thermal insulation of the upper floor, as well as on its vapor and waterproofing.Insulation must keep warm inside the house, maintain its original geometrical dimensions throughout the lifetime of the attic, have high strength characteristics and water resistance.
Insulation should be, first of all, the roof and end partitions, but the ceiling should also be given attention, since the temperature depends not only on the attic, but also the entire building.
The choice of various heaters in hardware stores is large enough, but not many of them are suitable for repairing attics.
The most common currently insulating materials based on stone wool. They are best used for laying between the rafters and the inside of the roof. Do not save on the thickness of the mineral wool insulation, for external structures it should not be less than 200 millimeters.
One of the newest materials on the market is polyurethane foam. This absolutely environmentally friendly and durable insulation has a porous structure with many small air bubbles, which ensures its high heat, hydro and vapor barrier. In addition, thanks to the spraying method, it can be applied with a rather thin layer, which significantly increases the living space of the attic.
