Cyclone vacuum cleaner for workshop

Cyclone (dust collector) from boxes for CDs and a toy road cone.
Cyclone from CD Boxes
You can make a fairly effective dust collector from a pair of boxes for CD-ROMs, a toy road cone and several pieces of PVC pipes. This cyclone can be attached to a bucket and used with a purchased vacuum cleaner. You can make the vacuum cleaner yourself from the box for CDs. Fully functional, compact and cheaper to store. All you need is a pair of cylindrical CD boxes, a toy road cone, a bucket, a PVC pipe and an electric motor from an old vacuum cleaner. One day my friend asked if I could do something out of the disc box, and the first thing that occurred to me was a vacuum cleaner with a dust collector. And after a few months, the result of my work appeared.

Materials for a future vacuum cleaner

To make a cyclone, you will need:
  • One box for 50 CDs and one for 100.
  • 1 plastic road cone.
  • 1 m PVC pipe with a diameter of 7 cm.
  • Fitting for PVC pipes.
  • One plastic bucket with a lid (not necessarily round).
To make a homemade vacuum cleaner, you will need:
  • Electric motor of any vacuum cleaner.
  • 2 rectangular pipes for 7 cm pipes.
  • 1 cylindrical box with a lid for 100 CDs .
  • 4 boards 8 x 35 cm.
  • 4 castors from the chair.

Let's start with a box of 50 CDs. Cut a hole in the bottom (black) part of the box so that it fits for the PVC pipe. Cut a hole in the CD in the center along the diameter of the PVC pipe and cut it from side to hole. Put the disk on the pipe, stretching it so that a screw is formed and fix it with hot glue. Cut an oval hole in the side part of the box cover (transparent part) for compact discs so that you can insert the pipe into it. Cut off the bottom part of the toy traffic cone so that the diameter of the lower part coincides with the diameter of box boxes for CDs. Cutting off the top of the transparent cover.

Insert the pipe with the screw from the CD into the center boxes and glue the tube, as well as the outer edges of the disc with the inner edges of the box cover. We glue the cut off part of the cone with the cut off top of the box from the CDs. We trim the top part of the road cone so that the diameter on the cut coincides with diameter of PVC pipe. Cut the top of the box cover on 100 discs and p Removing the hole in the bottom. Glueing the box for 100 discs with the already assembled part to make the construction more stable.

Insert the electric motor with the switch and wires into the cylinder of the box for 100 CDs. Cut out the holes in the top and bottom parts of the box for PVC pipes and fix pipes with glue in them. Cut out holes in the lid of the bucket to install a cyclone element and a vacuum cleaner. With a fitting, connect the pipe on the suction side of the vacuum module to the top of the cyclone module. From any tree we collect a platform corresponding to the size of the bucket. In the lower part of the platform, drill holes in the corners for mounting the wheels. Connect the suction hose to the cyclone suction pipe. Put the garbage bag in the bucket and test the dust collector for functioning and dust leaks.
