Exclusive: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Shares Her Airport Checklist
We're excited to announce Rosie Huntington-Whiteley as our new monthly contributor! Each month she will be sharing her style tips exclusively with you.
Travelling is a big part of my job as a model and actress, and over the years I’ve learned the importance of an unfussy airport outfit. For me it’s all about being comfortable, but still chic, so I tend to steer clear of anything that’s too much of a statement and reach for more classic styles instead. Long hauls call for pieces that keep you cosy on the plane, but also make you feel good upon arrival. Keep reading for all my travel must-haves.
Some of the essentials I packed for my recent trip to London:
Acne cashmere sweater; Saint Laurent bag; Saint Laurent scarf; Balenciaga leather pants; Paige t-shirt; The Row coat; Balenciaga weekend bag; Alaia boots; Miu Miu sunglasses; Eugenia Kim hat; by Lena Dunham.
Paige Margot High Rise Jeans (9)
I often think when you’re sitting on a plane for long periods of time it’s always good to have jeans with a little give in them, so they keep their shape while travelling. Something comfortable, like a boyfriend fit, is always a good choice, too. I’m a big fan of dark denim, which is elongating and slimming.
Maison Michele Kate Hat (0)
I always travel with a hat for numerous reasons, the most important being its ability to hide bad plane hair! I always find a great hat adds a little edge or polish to an otherwise simple look. I’m a big fan of Maison Michele hats, as well as Eugenia Kim and Janessa Leone.
Oliver Peoples Marmont Sunglasses (0)
?I never leave home without sunglasses, especially when travelling. When taking a red-eye, it’s always nice to reach for a pair when I land! For the airport, I do more of a classic style with big shades.
Etoile Isabel Marant Maldy Wool-Gabardine Blazer (0)
I like to travel in a well-cut blazer. Blazers are timeless, and come in many different cuts and styles, from being a little oversized and more masculine to something a bit more tailored and feminine for a polished result. You can’t go wrong with a good blazer; it’s an investment piece that will last you for years.
Zadig & Voltaire Markus Sweater (0)
I typically go for a black, grey, or navy sweater under my blazer—those are the kinds of classic colours I keep in my wardrobe, as they are super versatile and mix and match well with other items. My go-to brands are Zadig & Voltaire and Chloé .
Paige Clea Tee ()
I always try and take an extra t-shirt in case something happens, like you get red wine spilled all over you (speaking from experience)! It’s also nice to have something fresh to change into when you arrive at your destination. Paige actually makes great tees. The brand’s renowned for denim, but they recently started branching out to be more of a lifestyle brand, and their t-shirts are some of the softest I’ve ever worn and really keep their shape and wash.
Saint Laurent Classic Sac De Jour Leather Tote Bag (90)
For the airport, I tend to pick a larger bag, because I’m going to slip my laptop into it, my book, work documents, and cosmetics. I usually travel with a handbag and larger hold-all for the plane. It’s important to have a bag that you can get into easily, and is going to keep your things straight and neat, so I stick to a sturdier bag for those reasons. I love the Saint Laurent Sac de Jour and Givenchy Antigona; both are classic shapes.
Alexander Wang (5)
Most people want to go to the airport in flat shoes, which is totally understandable and smart, but I normally go in a little bootie with a small heel. I will usually grab a pair of low-heel boots. Alexander Wang always does a good ankle boot, not too high but with a little heel, which is great for just throwing on with a pair of jeans.
Falke No. 1 Cashmere Socks (5)
One thing I will do on the plane is put cuticle oil or hand cream on my hands and feet, and then put socks on to keep everything nice and moisturized.
Scotch Lint Roller ()
A sticky roller is in my bag at all times, because I hate lint and I always find that I’m totally covered in it when I get off the plane.
ModelCo Replenishing Rose Mist Facial Mist ()
A great rose mist is one thing I always like to have in my bag. It’s super hydrating and a real good pick-me-up. It smells delicious, so I usually will douse my whole seat area in rose mist, probably much to the annoyance of the person sitting next to me! A lavender essential oil is really nice too, especially if you’re nervous or stressed. I’ll dab a little bit on my shoulders and on my chest. It’s really great for getting to sleep and keeping your muscles nice and relaxed.
