Experts told about school bags for children

Experts have studied backpacks that sell in Russian stores, and gave advice on how to choose the right one.

First of all, the most important thing is what kind of health problems your child can make if he wears the wrong backpack.

“A bad satchel will affect your back first. This means that the musculoskeletal, respiratory, cardiovascular and nervous systems will suffer, ”says pediatrician Tatiana Butskaya, international pediatrician expert in children's products.

The spine is the pivot on which human health rests. In a small person, this rod is not yet strong enough to cope with any load.

“Scoliosis, pinched nerves, problems with blood circulation and breathing can occur due to a curved back,” the doctor continues.

What should be a good satchel

The correct school backpack for children of younger and middle school groups looks like this:

- firm, inflexible backrest, it evenly distributes the load on the back, without harming the child’s posture;

- wide straps (at least 3.5 - 4 centimeters) and the ability to adjust the belts;

- the backpack must fit snugly to the body;

- backpack material - lightweight, durable, with a water-repellent coating, convenient for cleaning;

- the case of the knapsack is form-stable;

- there must be reflective elements on the outside of the backpack, and inside there must be at least two compartments or a special pocket or liner for pens and pencils;

- the weight of the knapsack for children of primary school age is not more than 700 grams, for middle classes it is not more than a kilogram.

What we sell

Experts Roskoschestva decided to find out how to meet the packs in the stores established standards. For this, we bought different types of backpacks and backpacks of popular brands. Price spread ranged from 709 to 12,500 rubles. All bags were checked for durability, water resistance, toxicity, the presence of reflective elements, weighed and measured - only 92 parameters. And that's what turned out.

“On the labels, for the most part, the description was rather meager. Neither the weight nor the size of the goods almost never reported.Most of the goods turned out to be Chinese, but there were also samples of production from the Russian Federation, Germany, Japan and Serbia. It was not possible to determine the country of origin for some goods, ”says c.

In addition, manufacturers did not always indicate in the knapsack that it is intended for a child. And in the shops such backpacks stood next to the pupils - the buyer is easy to make a mistake.

“It’s not always possible for parents to clearly identify the purpose of the backpack. "City", "tourist" backpacks with a soft back, the goods of the "wrong" size are not suitable for children of the younger school group, ”says Elena Saratseva, deputy head of Roskochstvo.

The expert advises to carefully read the label - it should indicate that this is a school satchel, as well as the age of the child for which this backpack is designed.

Weight problem

Basically, deviations from the established standards have affected the weight of backpacks and back. Many were too heavy, and the back was, albeit embossed, but not rigid - for younger students, these are not suitable.

But with consumer properties backpacks everything was in order.The quality of sewing, strength - no complaints about this.

“Most products are stitched with high quality and neat, do not fade and are not painted, resistant to dry and wet friction. Most of them have a comfortable handle and a sufficient number of pockets. All have strong seams, good quality zippers, almost all backpacks today have reflective elements, ”says Elena Saratseva.

5 simple steps to a good backpack

1.Look at the label; there must be information on the product identification signs on the label. There should be a clear indication that this is a school backpack, and not a tourist or urban. Therefore, find the appropriate inscription on the label, for example, "school backpack (satchel)".

2.The label should also contain information on the manufacturer, the country of production and detailed information on the composition of the materials. Information should be presented in Russian.

3.Check for a child of what age is a backpack. It is important to estimate the age, because for children of the younger school group, backpacks should be lighter and smaller. The age group is estimated by the manufacturer independently, for example, 3+, 6+, 14+.

4.It is important to see the weight and size of the product.For children of primary school age the backpack should not weigh more than 700 grams, for middle classes it should be no more than a kilogram. On average, for primary school pupils, the size should not exceed 360 × 260 × 100 mm (deviations less than 30 mm).

5.Look at the back - for elementary and middle school children it should be firm, inflexible. In addition, you need to pay attention to the consumer characteristics of the product: the presence of reflective elements, additional internal and external pockets for pencils, compartments for textbooks and notebooks, webbing at least 4 centimeters, is it possible to adjust the belts. The material of the knapsack should be lightweight, durable, with a water-repellent coating, convenient for cleaning.
