What are rumors

The phenomenon of rumors is that it is extremely difficult to understand where the reliable information is said, and where the “frank” lie (gossip) is. The mechanism of the influence of rumors on the minds of people from time immemorial has been successfully used in political and ideological struggle.
It makes no sense to argue that rumors may contain false information, but at the same time they may also be word of mouth official data. For example, in order to expose "harmful rumors" in the first days of the Great Patriotic War, the USSR Post took messages to already occupied cities. Therefore, credibility is not an indicator for qualifying the information received as a rumor.
It is important here that the method of transmitting information occurs through channels of interpersonal communication. Moreover, the mechanism of circulation of hearing is accompanied by confirmation of receipt of information from a reliable source (the media, a respected mutual friend, a popular person, and so on).
Rumors are a serious, powerful tool to control the masses. Treats them with ease - it means to show short-sightedness.Therefore, much attention is paid to the study of rumors and their use in the modern world.
Rumors are a source of gathering information about public attitudes, attitudes toward government leaders, decisions, and so on. Circulation of rumors in society complements the official pictures of statistical and social research.
Interesting and at the same time tragic, one can call the fact that in the USSR intelligence officers specially worked out rumors that were released on “free swimming” to the people. In this way, public opinion was not just formed, but unreliable citizens were “identified”. The fate of them after the transfer of gossip was unenviable.
Hearing is used as a catalyst to change the socio-political attitudes among the masses, encouraging them to take some kind of action. Some time ago, a panic began in Ukraine, based on the rumor about the imminent disappearance of salt. This prompted citizens to clear the shelves from the goods, and the price of salt has increased several times.
Spreading rumors is always beneficial to someone. Thus, forming, operating with rumors is an instrument of economic, social and political influence.
Rumors are not always bad. In fact, they saturate the information life of society. This is a form of psychological compensation caused by a lack of emotional arousal. There are very curious and even unlikely rumors. For example, that Elvis Presley is alive, however, like Michael Jackson, that somewhere in America there is a UFO base, etc.
It’s not hard to let go of the rumor and see how it works. This can be done in any team. In addition, today there are a lot of trainings that teach the proper creation and direction of rumors.
